I am always looking for a twist on recipes, and this book does deliver a few good changes. However, I expected recipes that were more ‘down home’ than what was delivered since the book stated that it was
“Classic Southern Recipes Made Healthy and Wholesome”
I had expected recipes that were more homestyle and comforting, but was disapointed. The book had a long forward which was a great tale on how the author came to write this cookbook. It was very inspirational and did show the love behind the food/recipes listed in the book.
My other issue with the book was that the pictures were ‘flat’. What I mean by that is that they didn’t make me drool. Instead they were just pictures, nothing that showed depth or color. My suggestion would be to brighten the pictures (literally and figuratively). I also prefer for all the recipes to be pictured, but I know that’s just a choice for some authors.
I think I will probably make 2-5 dishes from this cookbook, but not sure any of them will make it to my regular rotation.
I received this book from the Blogging for Books program in exchange for this review.
